EPSI serves a subcontractor for this
$4.5 million, 3-year effort to update the Illinois
Natural Areas Inventory (INAI). The Illinois Department
of Natural Resources has provided the funding for phase
I of this project, with the Illinois Natural History
Survey at the University of Illinois serving as the
prime contractor. EPSI serves as the Planning and
Communications Coordinator for this project, with the
following primary responsibilities:
• Engaging stakeholders statewide. This includes
organizing workshops, meeting with key local, state and
federal agencies, and not-for-profit organizations, and
preparing news articles, fact sheets, and other
educational materials.
• Landowner contact. This project requires identifying
and contacting landowners to secure permission to access
their lands to conduct natural resources surveys. EPSI
has developed landowner contact protocols which are
sensitive to the issues of private landowners, as well
as addressing the issues related to public landowners.
• Developing the project budget. In cooperation with the
lead contractor, EPSI is responsible for developing and
revising the $4.5 million project budget.
